The Beacon
paintings and drawings
A beacon is a light or a fire, usually on a hill or tower, which acts as a signal or a warning. If someone acts as a beacon to other people, they inspire or encourage them.
The Beacon body of art works is a metaphor used as a “call to attention,” with a “mother tree” representing the beacon.
The meaning behind the artwork is inspired from a quote by Albert Einstein:
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us “Universe," a part limited in time and space. We experience ourself, our thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
